My Phonics Words is a collection of 105 individual small books that help students build phonics skills to become successful readers. Each book highlights one single phonogram and gives examples of words that include the same sound along with engaging pictures that reinforce letter-sound connections. Words vary in length from three letters to multisyllables. The phonogram is in a contrasting color to clearly show visually where it is in each word. Full-color photographs bring the words to life. The series Alphabet: Consonants (21 book set) has all of the hard consonants, including the hard sound of y, with the sound at the beginning. However, since the letter x is typically found at the end of words, the words in this book end with the letter x. Each short vowel gets a book in the series Alphabet: Short Vowels (5 book set). The vowel-consonant-e pattern (aka “Bossy e” or “Magic e”) and the two vowel sounds of the letter y are in the series Long Vowels (7 book set). The series Consonant Teams (6 book set) has books for the digraphs ch, ck, sh, tch, and wh. In the Long Vowel Teams (12 book set), the phonograms of ai, ay, ee, ea /ē/, eigh, ie /ē/, ie/ī/, igh, oa, ow /ō/, ue, and ui are taught. The series Special Vowel Teams (8 book set) has books for au, aw, oi, the two sounds of oo, ou, ow, and oy. The phonograms of ar, er, ir, or, and ur (aka “Bossy R”) are in the series Vowel + R (5 book set). The most common word families are in the series Word Families (41 book set) for students to practice word patterns and increase encoding and phonological awareness skills.
