Spotlight on Egypt - Children's Literature

Cover: Spotlight on Egypt

Eighty million people live in Egypt and have come there from Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Most speak Arabic and are divided into four groups: Arabs, Bedouins, Nubians, and Siwans. The Nile River runs through extensive deserts. Most people live in cities. They travel across the desert in cars, but some travel by camel in groups called caravans. Sometimes they stop at an oasis, which offers water from underground springs. The ancient Egyptians believed in gods and goddesses and their myths were drawn on rolls of papyrus (paper). They wrote in hieroglyphs (picture stories) instead of letters.
