One Egg - Children's Literature

Cover: One Egg

Part of the “Crabtree Connections” series, this title is categorized as an information book and it introduces the life cycle of a chicken as it grows from an egg into an adult who in turn will begin to lay eggs. Interestingly, in the first few pages, it is made clear that the eggs that one buys in the store to eat do not contain chicks—there is reference that a rooster is required to mate with a hen to produce eggs that will hatch chicks. The mother hen lays about 10 eggs and then sits on them to keep them warm. She rotates the eggs in the nest to ensure that they warm evenly.
